Consecutive Interpretation: translation that allows for pauses or breaks between sentences when each party is speaking. The interpreter listens, then interprets. The most common (and easiest) type of verbal translation. But frequently, the most appropriate, for example during questionnaires, interviews, Q&A sessions, depositions, etc.

Simultaneous Interpretation: translation done in real-time without pauses in the parties’ conversation. The most difficult mode of interpretation as it requires instantaneous and on-going comprehension and conversion of words and sentences from one language to the other. The interpreter must be highly skilled to provide this service, but it is essential for events such as trials, conventions, seminars, fast-paced negotiations, etc.

Phone Interpretation: Interpretation over the phone is typically consecutive but may be simultaneous. The interpreter acts as a middle-man or mediator between parties, converting and repeating, in the target language, each participant’s sentences. The interpreter must be alert for interruptions when one party speaks directly to the interpreter, asking for clarification or help in conveying their thoughts.
