Oakland County Circuit Court
The 6th Circuit Court is a division of the State of Michigan Judiciary and serves all citizens of Oakland County. The Circuit Court is the trial court with the broadest powers in Michigan, handling all civil cases with claims of more than $25,000, as well as felony criminal cases in the Civil/Criminal Division which includes a specialized Business Court for business and commercial cases.
The Family Division of Circuit Court handles all cases regarding divorce, paternity, adoptions, personal protection, emancipation, infectious disease, name changes, juvenile offenses, juvenile guardianship, and child abuse or neglect. The Friend of the Court Office (FOC) is also part of the Circuit Court. The FOC is involved in domestic cases where minor children are involved.
In addition, the Circuit Court hears appeals from the District Courts and other administrative agencies.
